Job Opening - Nurse Practitioner
Hours: 25-29 hours per week, Flexible schedule to be determined.

Classification: Part-time, Non-exempt
SCOPE OF WORK: Medical Outreach Ministries (MOM) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to meeting the needs of the uninsured and underserved residents of Montgomery, Elmore and Autauga Counties. The nurse practitioner is to be committed to providing quality primary care for patients at Medical Outreach Ministries.
JOB DUTIES
PATIENT CARE:
Perform initial health histories and physical examinations as required.
Perform episodic physical examinations.
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
Initiate referrals to other disciplines on the Medical Outreach Ministries healthcare team and orders referrals to specialists in the larger Montgomery medical community as required.
Counsel patients as to preventive care, medical problems, and the use of prescribed treatment to include selected surgical interventions and/or drug therapy.
Initiate and maintain health education for patients, including but not limited to domestic violence, diabetes, hypertension, and other disease processes.
Assess the psychological status of patients and assist the physician with patient management as required.
Initiate, prescribe, and monitor therapies as specified and supervised by the physician.
Initiate referrals to in-house case manager for nutritional and other non-medical counseling and assistance.
Document and write prescriptions for controlled substances for physicians to sign.
Supervise RNs, LPNs, and Medical Assistants regarding patient care matters, patient medications, and ancillary testing.
Call patients with ancillary testing results and/or provide instruction to the clinical staff on how to address results with patients.
Perform lesion removals, wound suturing, splinting, wart removals, Pap smears, breast exams, and incision and drainage as required.
Review and sign off on pending medication refills for patients throughout the day. Physicians will assist with this task as needed, but it is the responsibility of the Nurse Practitioner.

Identify goals and expected outcomes collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff. Collect quality assurance data that identifies opportunities for improvement.
Reinforce physician explanations of procedures, treatments, tests, and disease processes.
Work collaboratively with other health care professionals and makes referrals as required to meet the needs of the patients.
Comply with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, and fire.
Assume responsibility for CEU’s, licensure/certification, CPR/BLS, and clinical competencies.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrate thorough medical knowledge, quality work performance, and adhere to the standards of nursing care and the policies and procedures of Medical Outreach Ministries.
Deliver competent clinical care based on established theories, policies, and procedures.
Use equipment and devices pertinent to nursing treatment, procedures, and practices.
Adhere to infection control, isolation, hazardous waste products, and proper body mechanic techniques.
Apply appropriate channels of communication in problem solving as evidenced by referral of significant events to appropriate personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Alabama Nurse Practitioner clinical license through the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Master of Science in Nursing degree. Two years of related experience preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
